Oil and Gas
Alberta’s oil and gas industry is a critical economic driver for all of Canada and the ASC is the principal oil and gas regulator within the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). Our Petroleum group is responsible for overseeing oil and gas disclosure on behalf of reporting issuers engaged in oil and gas activities. This oversight involves:
- Conducting reviews of oil and gas disclosure and evaluations of reserves and resources other than reserves.
- Developing and maintaining securities legislation and policy.
- Communicating effectively with our capital market.
We strive to ensure investors have access to timely and accurate information. Our group of experienced oil and gas professionals understand the industry and are dedicated to assisting reporting issuers in meeting their compliance requirements. An important part of a fair and efficient capital market is high-quality corporate reporting. It promotes investor confidence and provides valuable information that enables investors to make informed investment decisions.
National Instrument 51-101 Standards for Disclosure for Oil and Gas Activities sets out requirements and standards for disclosure by reporting issuers engaged in oil and gas activities.

Canadian Oil and Gas Evaluation Handbook
The CSA mandates the Canadian Oil and Gas Evaluation Handbook (COGE Handbook) as the technical standard for NI 51-101.
